Face to face meetings for Will writing
In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, the need to get one’s affairs in order was charged with a new sense of importance. Since writing your Will is such a personal task, we receive requests from clients wanting to come in to our offices to discuss their Wills and Estate Planning needs in person. We are pleased to say that not only are we open for business, but also we have strict hygiene and social distancing measures in place that enable such meetings.
“There is a lot more talk about death at the moment”, Kathy Coldicutt, Senior Estate Planner in our Devonport office explains, “and it makes people wonder, whether they’d be prepared and their loved ones looked after, if they were to pass away unexpectedly. “
Kathy has been involved in writing Wills for over 17 years. While she cannot see clients in their homes at the moment, there is still the possibility for face-to-face appointments in the controlled environment of our offices.
What hygiene rules are in place?
“As the final documents need the wet signature on paper, we have to use pens – and actually, the client and the Estate Planner will need to use the same pen. That’s why we disinfect the pen, before handing it over”, Kathy describes. “We’ve already introduced social distancing months ago and increased office cleaning practices. It has become a new routine to keep the minimum physical distance when discussing how to realise the wishes of a client.”
Benefits of in-person meetings
“Many people are nervous about coming in”, knows Kathy, “more so, because writing your Will and planning your Estate can feel like a heavy weight on your shoulders.” Many of our clients appreciate that they can have all their questions and concerns addressed in person with their Estate Planner. “We really want to make sure people understand what they are signing and that it’s according to their wishes”, emphasizes Kathy.
Creating a new Will is not the only reason to come and see us: making sure your current Will is up to date is equally important as life circumstances do change regularly.
With over 130 years of history in Trustee Services, TPT Wealth has heard many times what Kathy Coldicutt describes as a reason why she likes her job so much: “When you hear from a client that ‘You have made this so easy’, you realize that you’re ultimately in the business of helping people. And I’ve met some lovely people in this job during all these years.”
