Leaving your legacy with your Will

A Will is an important legal document outlining how your assets should be distributed after you die. To be valid, a Will must be prepared and witnessed correctly. Informal or handwritten amendments, unclear witnessing, or physical damage can render a Will invalid or difficult to administer. Ambiguity or errors may also result in delays, disputes, or unintended outcomes for your beneficiaries. If you die without a Will – which is called an intestacy - your estate is divided according to intestacy laws in your state, which may not reflect your personal wishes. It can also result in delays, stress for loved ones, and outcomes you didn’t intend.
Why is a regular Will review important?
Once established, it’s important to keep your Will up-to-date. Your Will needs to reflect major changes in your life, such as having children, divorcing and remarrying, or receiving an inheritance, to ensure it remains valid and that your loved ones are not disadvantaged. As a general rule, you should review your Will every five years.
